The Forsyth Central Girls tennis team had a hard fought 3-2 over North Forsyth on Monday, March 20th. In singles play, line #1 junior Chloe Muklevicz continued her strong singles play this year, picking up her team leading 5th singles win 6-2, 6-0. At Line #2, junior Ashley Sciandra lost a close singles match 4-6, 7-6 to a senior in a battle of doubles players playing in singles, fighting off several match points before falling in the tiebreaker 7-3. At Line #3, sophomore Lydia Robbins picked up her third win of the season outlasting her opponent in an exhausting first set (7-6) and then cruised with a 6-3 second set. In doubles play, freshmen Anushka Pal and Emma Stevenson continued to compete very well, but eventually fell to their Line #1 doubles opponents. After losing the first set 6-3, the ladies fought back to win the second set in a tight tiebreaker (7-5). With the result of the match decided, the third set superbreaker went to North Forsyth 10-8. At Line #2 doubles, Bailey McCachren and Laney Benson continued to show the promise that has elevated them from the JV team to the varsity squad’s second doubles team. The team won to very tight sets (6-4,6-4) by winning crucial points to end both sets. The pair lead the combined teams with 8 total wins on the season, against only 4 defeats. This win was the team’s first in region play, and allowed them to surpass last season’s win total.
